SASSA SRD R370 Grant Status Check: September 2026 Payment Dates
This page explains how to check your SASSA SRD R370 grant status, what each result means, when September 2026 payments are made, and what to do if your payment is late or your application was declined.
What is the SASSA SRD R370 grant?
The SASSA SRD R370 grant (Social Relief of Distress) is a monthly payment of R370 from the South African Social Security Agency. It is for adults who have no income and are not getting any other kind of financial support.
It was first introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic and has been extended every year since. The 2026 Budget confirmed funding for the SRD grant until 31 March 2027, with an allocation of R36.4 billion set aside for it. The amount has stayed at R370 per month for the third year in a row — there has been no increase.
Unlike the Older Person’s, Disability, or Child Support grants, the SRD grant does not pay on a fixed date. It is checked and paid every single month, which means your status can change from Approved to Pending to Declined depending on your circumstances that month.
What you need to check your status or apply
Keep these ready before you start — it saves you data and time:
- 13-digit South African ID number — exactly as it appears on your ID document or smart card.
- The cellphone number you used to apply — your whole SRD record is linked to this number, not a new one.
- Access to the internet, even a small amount of data (the site and WhatsApp option use very little).
- Your banking details or retail payment method on file, if you are asking about a missing payment.
How to check your SASSA SRD status: step-by-step
- Go to the official SRD portal at sassa.gov.za using your phone or a computer.
- Click “Check Status.”
- Type in your 13-digit ID number
- Enter the cellphone number you used when you first applied.
- Select the month you want to check, then submit.
- Read your result — see the table below for what each one means and what to do next.
Other ways to check your status
If the website is slow or you are short on data, these alternatives work too:
| Method | How to use it | Best for |
| SASSA website | srd.sassa.gov.za — enter ID and phone number | Full detail, including payment date |
| Send “Hi” to 082 046 8553 and follow the prompts | Low-data users, quick checks | |
| Moya App | Download the free, data-free Moya app, open the SASSA service | Users with no data bundle |
| USSD | Dial the SASSA USSD code from your registered number | Phones without internet access |
| Call centre | 0800 60 10 11 (toll-free from a Telkom or Vodacom line) | If digital methods keep failing |
SASSA SRD R370 payment dates: September 2026
The SRD grant has no single fixed payment date for everyone. Payments are released in batches after your monthly verification clears, usually starting from around the 18th to the 24th of the month, running through to month-end.
| Grant type | September 2026 pay date | Notes |
| Older Person’s Grant | Wednesday, 2 September 2026 | Paid first each month |
| Disability Grant | Thursday, 3 September 2026 | Follows Older Person’s Grant |
| Child Support / Foster Care / Care Dependency | Friday, 4 September 2026 | Paid together in the first week |
| SRD R370 | From around 18 September 2026 (staggered) | Date is personal — confirm on your status page |
These dates are drawn from published SASSA schedules and news reporting current as of this page’s last update. Dates can shift around public holidays or system delays — always confirm your own payment date on the official portal, since Lendup is not SASSA and cannot guarantee any date.
What your status result means
| Status shown | What it means | What to do |
| Approved | You qualify for this month and a payment date will follow | Wait for your pay date, then check your bank or retailer balance |
| Pending | SASSA is still verifying your income, ID, or bank details | Check again in a few days; do not reapply |
| Declined | You did not meet the requirements for this specific month | Read the reason given, then use the appeal process below if you disagree |
| No Record Found | The ID and cellphone number entered do not match an application | Re-check for typos, confirm you used the same number you applied with |
Common problems and how to fix them
| Problem | Why it happens | How to fix it |
| Status says Pending for weeks | Monthly re-verification checks your bank, SARS, UIF, and NSFAS records — this can take time | Keep checking weekly; contact the call centre if it runs past a full month |
| Phone number “doesn’t match” | Your profile is tied to the number used at first application | Update your number on the SRD portal before checking again |
| Declined for “income above threshold” | A bank, SARS, UIF, or NSFAS record shows income near the R624 monthly limit (verify current threshold on the portal) | Submit an appeal within 30 days if you believe the record is wrong |
| No payment despite “Approved” status | Bank/retailer processing can take 1–2 working days after your date | Wait two to three working days, then confirm your payment details are correct |
| Card blocked or inactive | Postbank Gold Cards are being phased out in favour of the new Black Card | Swap your card for free at any Postbank branch with your ID |
How to appeal a declined SRD application
If you believe your application was declined by mistake, you can ask SASSA to look at it again:
- Go to sassa.gov.za and log in with your ID and phone number.
- Look for the “Appeal” or “Reconsideration” option under your declined month.
- Select the reason you believe the decision was wrong and submit any supporting information requested.
- Appeals must generally be submitted within 30 days of the decision — don’t wait.
- Check back for a response; processing times vary and are set by SASSA, not by this site.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my SRD status still say Pending?
Pending means your monthly checks against SARS, UIF, NSFAS, and your bank account have not finished. This is normal and usually clears within the month — reapplying will only slow things down.
Why do I get “No Record Found” when I check my SRD status?
This almost always means the cellphone number you entered doesn’t match the one on your original application, or there’s a typo in your ID number. It does not mean you were rejected.
When will I get my SRD R370 payment this month?
There is no single date for all recipients. Once your status shows Approved for the month, your personal payment date will appear on the portal, usually from around the 18th onward.
Is the SRD grant increasing from R370 in 2026?
No increase was announced in the 2026 Budget Speech. The grant remains R370 per month. Ignore any social media post claiming otherwise — always check the official SASSA channels.
Can I still apply for SRD if I already get another grant?
No. You cannot receive the SRD grant alongside another SASSA grant, UIF payments, or an NSFAS bursary or stipend.
What is the income limit for SRD in 2026?
Reported figures place the threshold at roughly R624–R628 per month from any source. Because sources vary slightly, confirm the exact current threshold on the official SRD portal before assuming you don’t qualify.
My Postbank card stopped working — why?
SASSA is phasing out the old Gold Card. Visit any Postbank branch with your ID to swap it for the new Black Card, free of charge.
